Get to know the people behind the gerbera and meet the team of Kwekerij de Zuidplas
Kwekerij de Zuidplas is a family-owned plant nursery with deep roots. Within the company, we pay attention to the person behind the employee. This is reflected in long-term relationships in which there is room for growth, development and a friendly chat. It also undoubtedly has an effect on the quality of the colourful gerberas we produce.
Meet the team of Kwekerij de Zuidplas
Kwekerij de Zuidplas is a family business. Relationships have therefore formed an integral part of the nursery right from the very start. Most of our employees stay with us for a very long time. We believe in long-lasting relationships in which there is room for growth, development and a friendly chat among colleagues.
Gerberas through Wilco’s eyes
Wilco is Kwekerij de Zuidplas’ crop protector. He works in the greenhouses where he studies insects that do good and harm. He prefers to use the good insects to combat the harmful ones in a natural way. If that fails, he looks at alternative methods to give the plants as much protection as possible and safeguard the nursery's quality standards.

Do you have any questions for our team?An average working day at Kwekerij de Zuidplas
The nice thing about the average working day at Kwekerij de Zuidplas is that no two are ever the same. One thing is certain though: the day starts early. Entrepreneur and owner Juriaan starts the day with the planner, mapping out and preparing the work for the day. And then, of course, there are always unexpected things that arise during the day.
The importance of a good team
In all honesty, running a successful business on your own is impossible. You need a good team. It is important that complex processes are performed in the correct way, every single day. For Kwekerij de Zuidplas, this means focusing on both efficiency and customer satisfaction. In practice, these turn out to be two different things. Juriaan explains how he approaches this challenge.
Working on a team that works
Assembling a team that works well together is no easy task. Having an eye for the person behind the employee and being prepared to invest in his or her development are important factors that contribute to good working relationships. And not only that; we also improve collaboration by investing in good personal contact and in a basis of trust, instead of strict rules.
Working with colleagues from around the world
Colleagues from all corners of the globe work at Kwekerij de Zuidplas. As Juriaan says, ‘We employ people from the Netherlands, of course, but also from Poland, Bulgaria, Turkey and Morocco. This works because in practice their similarities turn out to be greater than the cultural differences. Good working relationships depend on mutual understanding. Because if we make the effort to understand each other, the differences fall away.’
