At Kwekerij de Zuidplas, no (polluted) water is discharged into the ditch; instead, it goes via the sewer system to a treatment plant. Here, the water is subsequently purified externally.
The system is designed to reuse water as much as possible. Only in exceptional situations, such as extreme rainfall during which the system reaches its maximum capacity, can clean excess water be discharged via an overflow.
The nursery actively collaborates with authorities such as the regional water board and regulatory bodies to comply with environmental standards and, where possible, improve them. Through transparency and by actively seeking cooperation with companies that also wish to do their part, Kwekerij de Zuidplas contributes to a more sustainable and reliable water system.
Furthermore, the nursery actively helps find solutions, for example by buffering water during peak loads. This not only optimizes its own processes but also contributes to water management at a regional level.
