The collected residual water is subsequently filtered to make it suitable for reuse.
At Kwekerij de Zuidplas, this is done using advanced filtration techniques in which water is passed through extremely fine structures (nano holes).
These filters remove bacteria and viruses, while retaining dissolved nutrients. This is an important distinction: the water is made biologically safe without the loss of valuable elements.
The result is clean, reusable water that can be used again in the cultivation process.
At Kwekerij de Zuidplas, no (polluted) water is discharged into the ditch; instead, it goes via the sewer system to a treatment plant. Here, the water is subsequently purified externally.
